Lesson 9 of 14
In Progress

Expectation 8 You should expect to get the help you need to live life to the fullest

Everyone needs help sometimes. As you grow older, your needs may shift—but your right to a meaningful, joyful life does not. You should expect to receive the support you need to stay active, independent, and engaged in the ways that matter to you.

Living life to the fullest doesn’t mean doing everything alone. It means having the right tools, services, and relationships in place to enjoy your days with comfort, confidence, and purpose. That might look like help around the house, transportation to appointments, assistive devices, or someone to talk to when you’re feeling low. It might mean participating in activities you love—or trying something new.

Too often, people hesitate to ask for help out of pride, fear of being a burden, or simply not knowing what’s available. But needing support isn’t a weakness—it’s human. Getting help can empower you to stay connected to the people, places, and passions that bring meaning to your life.

Support can come from many sources: family, friends, neighbors, professionals, volunteers, community programs, and more. Whatever your goals—whether it’s walking with less pain, learning to use a smartphone, or finding someone to share meals with—you have the right to ask for and receive help that fits your life.

Action Plan

1. Identify What You Need
Take a moment to reflect: What would make your daily life easier or more enjoyable? Where could a little support go a long way?

2. Ask for Help Without Guilt
Start the conversation with someone you trust. It’s okay to say, “I could use a hand with…” or “I’m not sure who to ask, but I need…”

3. Explore Local Resources
Look into senior centers, aging services, transportation programs, or care coordination services in your community. You may be surprised by what’s available.

4. Use Technology (With Support, If Needed)
Many services—like grocery delivery, virtual classes, or telehealth—can help you stay independent. Ask someone to help set things up if it feels overwhelming.

5. Stay Open to Receiving
Accepting support can open doors to more freedom, more connection, and more joy. You deserve to live a life that feels full, not limited.

Getting help isn’t about giving up—it’s about getting what you need to keep going, growing, and thriving. Expect nothing less.
